beach day

June 18, 2023

8:26 pm

It was a quiet day at the beach.  Quiet and very peaceful and very restful.  The ocean water is very warm.  I am not sure if I should have gone in, because of the biopsies on my face, but I did anyways….I could not resist the warm, turquoise sea…I just could not resist.

Today was the first day that I did not have anything to do:  no doctors’ appointments, tests, or phone calls; no errands; no chores; no running around.  It felt good.

I have been chanting, praying, resting/sleeping well, and taking no pain medication because I do not have any pain.  If someone hadn’t told me that I have cancer, I would not know at all.  If I could not see and feel the slight lump…I would not know.  I feel perfectly normal and fine.

I have not shed a tear; I feel no fear.  I am a grizzly bear…a MAMA grizzly bear.  I do not go down easily, nor do I stay down.  That’s a fact.

On Thursday morning, the 15th, I went to see Dr. William Louie, oncologist, at Castle at 8:00 am.  Laura brought me and came into the consultation with me.  What would I ever do without her?  And Ead?

The appointment was about two hours.  Dr. Louie certainly is an expert with many years of experience.  He was personable and knowledgeable.  The staff….Mary, Janya, and Jessica…were wonderfully warm and personable and made me feel comfortable and secure that I was in good hands.  Still yet, by the time I left there and arrived at the next appointment, at Hawaiian Islands Dermatology, I was feeling quite overwhelmed…for the first time, really.  It was a lot to take in in a short period of time.

Doug Williams…I am not sure if he is a physician or physician assistant…his shirt was embroidered “physician associate”...on line he is called “physician assistant"…so I'm not sure.  But anyways.  He was “OK”...not particularly warm, but professional…focused on doing his job.  He took two samples from my face for biopsy.

On Friday, the 16th, Laura took me to Castle for a blood draw ordered by Dr. Louie.  A young technician…Raven, a local Kailua young man….took my blood.  He was extremely cute and personable.  And he has great hair.  LOL

Tomorrow, the 19th, I have an online appointment with Dr. Christine Spiers, a radiation oncologist at the Cancer Center of Hawai’i.

I hope the appointment is quick because I would like to swim before going to Juku for 1 pm - 5 pm.

Tuesday, the 20th, no appointments scheduled…yet.  Swimming in the morning; Juku 1 pm - 5 pm.

Wednesday, June 21st….10:15 am appointment with Dr. Fang, plastic surgeon, at Pali Palms.  I’ll ride my bike.  Then I’ll swim and then I’ll spend time with Laura and Ead.

Thursday, June 22…..going to Juku til 3 pm.  Payday…have to go to the credit union and pay my rent, make the deposit to Carol’s credit union.  Laura will pick me up at Juku and take me to the PET scan appointment at Insight Imaging.
